Berta Bridal

To me, Berta Bridal is the ultimate bridal designer. They are just able to manipulate lace unlike any other bridal designer I have came across so far as well as being modern and unbelievably *sexy.* After seeing the beautiful gown they designed for Miss USA Olivia Jordan to wear at the Miss Universe final (she was second runner up btw!) I just had to share some of my favourite designs so far.

So now I’m going to shut up and just let you see how amazing their dresses actually are… there are no words!

Eliza Jane Howell

Every few months I become OBSESSED with a new bridal wear designer. I don’t know how but before I know it I’m stalking their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages waiting for new images of “real brides” or their new collections. So what better way to deal with my stalkerish behaviour than to share my obsession with you all.

So here it is. My first ever indepth focus into a bridal wear designer and who better to start with than the Eliza Jane Howell collection.

Honestly everytime I’m on the Eliza Jane Howell Facebook page I can hear Sam Smyth’s “The Writings on the Wall” in the background. Her designs ooze glamour and sophistication from years gone by.

Renowned designer Gill Harvey has brought together her years of experience to create the Eliza Jane Howell Bridal Collection.

Gill Harvey, a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, is the creator behind the bridal collection which is named after her grandmother. The collection is “designed for the modern day bride who would love to wear a dress that oozes the glamour, sophistication and decadence of the golden age of fashion.”

These showstopping, dramatic gowns are perfect for the modern day bride who loves that vintage edge or for any bride longing to make a statement on her wedding day.

I. Am. Obsessed.

“Taking inspiration from exquisite vintage gowns, the Eliza Jane Howell collection is the epitome of grown up glamour.”

Belfast Bride on: My Favourite NI Wedding Dress Shops

Two days after getting engaged I booked my first dress appointment… Two days! I hadn’t even a style in mind, a date set or a venue but I knew my whole day would be centred around THE DRESS!

After one bridal appointment I knew the style of dress I wanted and I knew I would never go into another appointment unprepared. Before booking an appointment with a dress shop make sure you know your stuff; which designers they stock, do they stock your style and are they in your price range (The Belfast Bride can help with all of these questions and have a blog post to come on them!).

With that in mind. Here are The Belfast Bride’s top wedding dress shops that I love in 2015.

1. Petticoat Lane Bridal, Hillsborough

Petticoat Lane is the epitome of wedding dress shops. Katie who owns the store is known for going above and beyond for brides, a trait she has instilled in the girls who work with her. On a corner of the quaint Hillsborough village, this gem of a shop stocks some of the most well known yet diverse designers in Northern Ireland.

2. Ivory and Pearl, Comber

Ivory and Pearl was one of the newest bridal boutiques in NI when I was wedding dress shopping. Two years on and it continues to grow strength on strength as a bridal retailer. Stocking almost all exclusive designers in Ireland, the selection of traditional and vintage gowns is second to none.

3. Divinity Bridal, Lisburn

After visiting Divinity Bridal recently it is one of my new favourites. The girls in this bridal store cannot do enough for the brides and bridal parties which walk through their door. I had the pleasure of watching a bride find her dream dress in the store and it was so much fun! If you are after a diverse range of gowns, very friendly staff and great fun then this is the store for you.

4. Serendipty Bridal Boutique, Fivemiletown

Time and time again, brides pass on raving reviews of this award winning store. Serendipty may be a little further out from Belfast but if the designers they stock are of interest to you then it is definitely worth the trip to Fivemiletown.

5. McElhinneys Bridal Rooms, Ballybofey

McElhinneys have one of the most extensive wedding dress collections in Ireland with 500+ dresses on site. As a premium stockist for the majority of their designers, you can be sure to browse dresses before other stores may even receive their sample and with bridal gowns covering all budgets you can be sure to receive an exquisite service.

The Quirky Wedding Show

This week I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Cate Conway from The Quirky Wedding show and I just couldn’t help but blog about it! Here’s just a snippet of what I learnt about Quirky Weddings.

The best of the best. The Quirky Wedding show ethos is centred around only having the best of the best at their shows. Did you know they hand pick their exhibitors? With over 200 suppliers applying each year to exhibit at the show, Cate and Saima only choose the top 120 and they currently have a waiting list!

Variety. Within the 120 exhibitors the Quirky Wedding show, Cate and Saima play host to a set number of each type of supplier e.g. photographers. Within this set number Quirky Weddings have worked hard to ensure a diverse range of styles. From traditional to rustic you are sure to find what you need.

Friendly and helpful. It’s not often you meet someone who is genuinely lovely, down to earth and eager to help! Cate was all of these things with me and she is known for doing the same with her customers. Cate is known to help source random items for weddings and suggest companies and venues. She’s also been known to fix the odd wedding problem!

Diversity. No, not the dancers… actual diversity.  The Quirky Wedding show is not a bridal show. It is a wedding show! It’s for everyone! Gay, straight, man, woman, old, young, size 6 or size 22 YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME!

Afraid you aren’t Quirky enough? Don’t be! The Quirky Wedding show is filled with the top exhibitors, with a variety of styles who are more than eager to help each and every person who walk through their doors. Don’t be afraid to stretch outside of the box.. If you want a batman cake ask for it! If you want a plain white Victoria sponge ask for it!

Quirky Weddings plays host to two wedding shows a year and their next show is on Sunday 1st March from 12-5pm at the Waterfront in Belfast. You will not be disappointed!
