Belfast Bride on: My Favourite NI Wedding Dress Shops

Two days after getting engaged I booked my first dress appointment… Two days! I hadn’t even a style in mind, a date set or a venue but I knew my whole day would be centred around THE DRESS!

After one bridal appointment I knew the style of dress I wanted and I knew I would never go into another appointment unprepared. Before booking an appointment with a dress shop make sure you know your stuff; which designers they stock, do they stock your style and are they in your price range (The Belfast Bride can help with all of these questions and have a blog post to come on them!).

With that in mind. Here are The Belfast Bride’s top wedding dress shops that I love in 2015.

1. Petticoat Lane Bridal, Hillsborough

Petticoat Lane is the epitome of wedding dress shops. Katie who owns the store is known for going above and beyond for brides, a trait she has instilled in the girls who work with her. On a corner of the quaint Hillsborough village, this gem of a shop stocks some of the most well known yet diverse designers in Northern Ireland.

2. Ivory and Pearl, Comber

Ivory and Pearl was one of the newest bridal boutiques in NI when I was wedding dress shopping. Two years on and it continues to grow strength on strength as a bridal retailer. Stocking almost all exclusive designers in Ireland, the selection of traditional and vintage gowns is second to none.

3. Divinity Bridal, Lisburn

After visiting Divinity Bridal recently it is one of my new favourites. The girls in this bridal store cannot do enough for the brides and bridal parties which walk through their door. I had the pleasure of watching a bride find her dream dress in the store and it was so much fun! If you are after a diverse range of gowns, very friendly staff and great fun then this is the store for you.

4. Serendipty Bridal Boutique, Fivemiletown

Time and time again, brides pass on raving reviews of this award winning store. Serendipty may be a little further out from Belfast but if the designers they stock are of interest to you then it is definitely worth the trip to Fivemiletown.

5. McElhinneys Bridal Rooms, Ballybofey

McElhinneys have one of the most extensive wedding dress collections in Ireland with 500+ dresses on site. As a premium stockist for the majority of their designers, you can be sure to browse dresses before other stores may even receive their sample and with bridal gowns covering all budgets you can be sure to receive an exquisite service.

The Quirky Wedding Show

It’s well and truly coming around to wedding show season again. Last year I headed to The Quirky Wedding Show in The Kings Hall and to summarise the whole show in one sentence a year on…

I make no secret of the fact this is my favourite wedding show! From the venue, to the suppliers, the staff to the stands; the whole show is centred around providing brides and grooms with the best, hand picked suppliers and services in Northern Ireland.

The Suppliers

The Quirky Wedding Show is filled to the brim with the most helpful suppliers in the business. Last year I loved meeting new faces at the show.

The Bearded Candlemakers were one! These guys are the ultimate cool! Creating candles out of scents you create with them, you are making a candle for your guests with a truly unique scent. The guys were so helpful and really took the time to explain the product to me and how other brides and grooms had used them in the past. I can’t wait to see (or should I say smell!) more of their work.

The Merchant Hotel had a beautifully presented stand and were lovely to talk to. Brides and Grooms chatted to me after about how ornate and beautiful the venue is and how until seeing The Merchant at the show, they hadn’t even thought of them. The are the perfect city centre location wedding venue which maintains class and elegance for your big day.

Shauna Fay, is one of the ultimate dress designers in NI at the minute. You can tell at a glance how much thought, effort and patience has went in to every aspect of her designs and I loved checking out all of her pieces at last years show! Designing a dress from scratch is hugely scary for a bride but I could easily put my trust in her!

The moral of the story is that The Quirky Wedding Show is one not to be missed and I am very excited to be blogging live from the show this year 😍 I hope to see you all there on September 13th!

Pamela and James Spring Wedding 👰🌻

Hello spring time!☀️🌺

Thankfully I have had my first quiet weekend in what seems like forever and as much as I promised I wouldn’t commit to blogging this weekend I can’t help but write this post!

As I am currently staring outside, from my (very comfy!) sofa, at the prettiest day we’ve had in what seems like forever, I couldn’t help but remember one of the prettiest wedding’s I seen in 2014! And since, by the looks of it, we could have finally said goodbye to the frost and ice for the year ❄️⛄️ I find myself even more motivated to write this post on the beautiful Pamela’s spring wedding day!

Every time I look at pictures of Pamela’s wedding it just seems to put me in such a good mood! Picture this… a sunny day, ☀️bridesmaids in yellow, daisy flowers, 🌻 a Beetle car with the roof down and an ankle length wedding dress 👰. How could it not make you happy?! The day just screams Summer, sunshine and happiness!

Not only was the day perfectly picturesque but it seemed like great “craic!” From the guys in their multicoloured socks to the selfie with wedding guests everyone seemed like they had a blast!

The Ulster Wedding Show, 31st-1st February 2015.

The Ulster Wedding Show came and went last weekend and what a show it was! With a £25,000 wedding to be won it was excitement central in the Odyssey.

Great Entertainment
On arrival, we were greeted with bands from Glen Houston Entertainment who were set to get you straight into wedding mode! The guys we saw were fun, energetic and would definitely have your guests jumping off their seats!

Chilled Out Atmosphere
The Ulster Wedding Show was different to other shows I’ve been to in that the bar in the Odyssey was open! This meant couples could sip on a drink as they walked round the show making it even more enjoyable and relaxed!

Excellent Exhibitors
The exhibitors were amongst the most helpful, polite and friendly I have met. From bridal and bridesmaid gowns in Petticoat Lane to suits from Focus Bangor the guys and girls were a pleasure to speak too!

A fashion show with a difference
I LOVED the fashion show! Straight from the offset, two entertainers from GH Entertainment dandered on stage pretending to be cleaner and a car park attendant. Low and behold they broke into song! 🙊 After we’d gotten over the shock and giggles 😂 we realised how good they actually were!

Post shock, those watching the show were amazed as the Style Academy models showed off wedding underwear from Debenhams, Belfast (needless to say I was at the gym on Monday! 💪). For once, a wedding fashion show was not entirely traditional! I love when someone tries something new and for me this made the show even more interesting!

The Wedding Journal Show, 23-25th January 2015.

On Sunday I had the pleasure of attending the Wedding Journal Show in the Kings Hall, Belfast and what a show it was!

The one thing that always stands out to me about the Wedding Journal Show is the hustle and bustle of it all. It is such a busy show with so many engaged couples attending across the three days! The show was filled with over 250 diverse wedding experts from all over Ireland to satisfy the needs of brides and grooms to be.

This year I was pleasantly surprised at the musical acts showing of their talents during the show. From singers to a harp player, it was lovely to listen to beautiful music as you dandered around all the stands!

As usual the models did not disappoint! You will NEVER meet 12 models/dancers who love their job more than the models at this show! While showing off clothes from the suppliers at the shows the guys, girls and children look like they are having so much fun! I almost wanted to jump up with them!

Finally, how could I forget the £25,000 prize!!! I couldn’t help but be incredibly nervous for the 9 couples as they stood waiting to hear… at some points I actually had to look away so I can’t imagine how they felt!! The winner was the gorgeous ACA model Emma and her fiancé Kyle and I am already dying to see how beautiful her wedding pictures will be!

As usual the Wedding Journal Show did not disappoint. The three things are you guaranteed at this show are:
1. PLENTY of diverse suppliers.
2. Beautiful and fun models showing off some fab NI wedding outfits.
3. The potential to win an amazing £25,000 wedding!

The Wedding Journal Show returns between the 18th-20th September 2015 in an all-new venue.

There is always time for a selfie… Especially when there is free wine and ice cream involved!
